Manual of Style

This manual of style is meant as a general guideline for contributors to help unify writing styles across the wiki, and is expected to be followed for all articles written for the wiki.

General grammar

Use en dashes – for ranges (e.g. "She's around 8–9 years old.") and em dashes — for parenthetical clauses, clauses which interrupt a sentence to explain something further (e.g. "My coach — Jun Yodaka — promised to take me to the olympics.").

Formatting

Use Heading level 2 ==Section title here== as the highest level heading in an article. Never use Heading level 1 =Title here=, which is reserved for article titles.
For quotations, use a blockquote tag, then write the quotation in italics, and include quote marks. Put a linebreak after. The source of the quote should use a quotation dash ―, followed by the source of the quote (character names, if mentioned, should be linked).

This is easily done by using the Quote template. As an example, the following code will yield the above quote block.

Japanese name clarification should always be written as such: The name in Japanese script with a space between the surname and forename, then a space (no comma), followed by the name in the English transliteration, italicized. Example: Inori Yuitsuka (結束いのり Yuitsuka Inori).

Article sections

Articles should be uniform in structure for each of its categories. Some basic guidelines on what to write in each section:

Images

Remove all text when taking screenshots/crops of manga panels.
Disable your subtitles when taking screenshots of anime episodes.

Citation and references

Use the <ref> tag for citations, either for references or footnotes. For instance, this source code produces the following wiki text:

Notice that the source Chapter 1 is hyperlinked. If the source has a page on the wiki (or should have one, if it's not made yet), always link it. This applies to manga chapters and anime episodes.
If a source is a manga chapter, you do not need to have page number included in the footnote.
For Fanbook sources, include the page number.
Just as an example, this is what a typical citation for each type of source:
- <ref>[[Chapter 41]].</ref> for manga chapters.
- <ref>[[Episode 29]].</ref> for anime episodes
- <ref>[[Medalist Official Fan Book|Fanbook]], Page 204.</ref> for the Fanbook.
Create a References section (second level heading, i.e. == References ==) at the bottom of the page (but before any Navboxes) if there were citations in the page. Within that section, include the tag <references /> to show all the citations included in the page.

Transliteration and terminologies

For Japanese transliterations, we should use modified Hepburn romanization.
For English translations of names, if a name is written in the Roman alphabet in the original Japanese release, defer to that (e.g. the spelling of Reilly Foxx's name, written in Volume 12). Otherwise, defer to the spellings used by the official English translation by Kodansha US and YKS Services.
The following table should be consulted for consistent terminology usage.
